How to Become a Registered Physiotherapist in Australia?


Pathway to work as Registered Physiotherapist on PR Basis in Australia

Physiotherapist community has  now become an important part of Healthcare system. This profession is in great demand in Australia. In the recent years, there is a sudden hike in terms of income and job opportunities in this field.There is a complete pathway to work as registered Healthcare Professional (Physiotherapy). The applicant must follow these steps:


Step 1: Qualify OET

First step is to qualify OET with minimum of B score in each of the four modules( Reading, Writing, Reading and Speaking).


Step 2: Written Assessment by Australian Physiotherapy Council 
The Applicant has to give an examination which has 2 parts: 
1. The theoretical exam
2. Clinical assessment
This examination includes 15 case studies each for written assessment and clinical assessment. The cases are drawn from the key areas of clinical practice (musculoskeletal, cardio respiratory and neurology). The candidate should score minimum of 55% marks in the test to qualify it.
This examination is held four times a year in the month of  March, June, September and December in Australia and March and September in India 



Step 3:  Registration at Concerned Board/ Council 

After qualifying both the exams the applicants can apply for registration to work as Registered Physiotherapist.

The Physiotherapy Board of Australia considers applications for registration and conducts a criminal history check.

Step 4 : PR assessment

Duration: It takes approximately 8 to 10 months for complete process.
